Youngstown police arrest driver with felony record for having loaded gun in car

Patrolling officers with the Youngstown Police Department arrested a driver for having a firearm he wasn’t supposed to have and trying to lie about it.

Police pulled over a red sedan on Wednesday shortly after 8 p.m. in the area of Hudson and Sherwood in Youngstown.

According to reports, the car only had one headlight working, so YPD officers pulled him over.

The police officer asked the driver, Boardman resident Michael Hackett, 37, to step out and talk.

Police said, once outside of the car, Hackett told the officer he didn’t have a driver’s license and handed over a paper copy of a birth certificate.

When the officer asked Hackett if he had guns in the car, police reports say Hackett told the officer he didn’t have any, reports indicated.

The officer went to locate the vehicle registration number, and as soon as he looked into the front driver side window of the car, he saw a gun in plain view, police said.

Reports say the gun was a silver, stainless steel Raven Arms pistol and lying on the floor mat on the driver’s side. There was one live round in the chamber and three rounds in the magazine attached to the gun.

Hackett was placed under arrest.

According to reports, police found out Hackett had a felony conviction for firearms out of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.

He was taken to Mahoning County Justive Center and booked on charges of having a firearm in a motor vehicle and having weapons under disability.

He was also issued traffic vitations. The car was towed by Schultz.
