Trumbull County Commissioner Niki Frenchko claims win in court ruling against officials
Trumbull County Commissioner Niki Frenchko claimed a win in a Tuesday ruling in U.S. District Court in her suit against Trumbull County Sheriff Paul Monroe, Trumbull County Sheriff deputies Harold Wix and Robert Ross and fellow Trumbull County Commissioners Frank Fuda and Maro Cantalamessa.
County officials also won several claims in the ruling.
Frenchko said her rights under the First and Fourth Amendments to the U.S. Constitution were violated when the defendants “repeatedly attempted to silence her and prevent her from representing the interests of her constituents.”
Her court claim was based on her arrest during a July 7, 2022 commissioner’s meeting
“Here in America, we do not arrest our political opponents,” U.S. District Court Judge J. Philip Calabrese wrote in the 81-page opinion, which said the defendants can be held individually liable for damages.
