City releases new update for construction plan on Boardman and Walnut streets in Youngstown
The city of Youngstown released an update on a construction project planned to start this summer downtown.
The City of Youngstown Public Works Department is seeking feedback from the public on the Boardman Street and Walnut Street restriping and safety upgrades project.
The project is available to view on the city of Youngstown’s website.
Where will the work take place?
Crews will be restriping Boardman Street between Walnut Street and Market Street, as well as Walnut Street between Front Street and Commerce Street. There will also be new traffic control signs and ramps installed on the streets, as well as improved lighting and landscaping.
In addition to these enhancements, the public works department wants to add a step street to the closed roadway section of Walnut Street between Commerce and Wood Streets.
A step street is a thoroughfare fitted with steps for people walking instead of paved for cars.
The project will cost $2,867,500 and is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2024. According to the city, the project will be completed by late fall of 2025.
“Project-related issues include, but are not limited to, the effect of the project on residents, businesses, the local economy and historic or cultural resources,” according to Charles Shasho, deputy director of the City of Youngstown Public Works Department. “Comments received by Feb. 5, 2024 will be considered during this phase of project development, but all comments will be addressed.”
Call 330-742-8800 or email publicworks@youngstownohio.gov to leave comments about the project.
