Youngstown police arrest teenager after finding stolen firearm inside car
Youngstown police officers on patrol pulled over a vehicle and arrested a 17-year-old occupant for possession of drugs and a stolen firearm inside the car.
Several officers were following a red Chevy Impala driving westbound on East Midlothian Boulevard around 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
The driver entered a turning lane without using a turn signal, which prompted police to initiate a traffic stop.
Police reported smell of burnt marijuana outside car
According to reports, one of the police officers who approached the car on the passenger side smelled burnt marijuana coming from the car.
They asked the two occupants in the car if there were any drugs or weapons inside and for their I.D.’s.
The 17-year-old passenger told police there weren’t any drugs or weapons, according to police reports.
Police officers asked the passenger and the 18-year-old driver, who “appeared to be very nervous,” to step out of the car.
Two officers conducted a probable cause search of the Chevy, according to reports.
They located two clear plastic baggies of marijuana inside the 17-year-old’s coat pockets, as well as a handgun under the front passenger seat.

Both the driver and passenger were arrested by Youngstown police. Reports say the two males were read their Miranda Rights, and the 17-year-old passenger confirmed with police the gun was his.
The passenger was taken to the Juvenile Justive Center for improperly handling a firearm in a motor vehicle, according to the reports.
The passenger was also issued a citation for possession of marijuana, while the driver received a traffic citation for failing to use his turn signal.
Later, police ran the firearm through their records and found out it was stolen from Howland.
Reports say there will be “further investigation” into the gun.
