The following cases were handled Tuesday morning before Judge Andrew D. Logan of Trumbull County Common Pleas Court:

  • Jamarr Jenkins, 20, of Kenmore Avenue Southeast, pleaded guilty to an amended indictment charging him with first-degree involuntary manslaughter, second-degree felonious assault and third degree endangering children. The case involved the March 26, 2023 shooting death of 43-year-old Ruby Sanchez, who was found at her Hampshire House apartment. The case also involved the incident where a 2-year-old boy shot himself in the hand the same day as the Sanchez shooting. Jenkins will be sentenced after he undergoes a background investigation conducted by county probation officers. Judge Logan says a prison term is mandatory and Jenkins could face a maximum 25- to 30-year prison sentence.
  • Jeffrey L. Stychno, 54, of Oak Knoll Avenue NE, Warren, pleaded guilty to a charge of violating a protection order, a fifth-degree felony. Stychno could get the charge dismissed if he completes the probation department’s intervention in-lieu of conviction program, which requires a three-year supervision and one-year of sobriety. The case involved threatening behavior toward a female victim from July through December 2022.
  • Maurice D. Roebuck, 36, of Roberts Avenue NW, Warren, received a 18-month prison sentence after pleading guilty Jan. 17 to possession of cocaine and possession of fentanyl-related compound charges. Judge Logan said Roebuck was not amenable to probation because of three prior prison terms and four active warrants still out on the defendant.
  • Larry D. Owens, 49, of Warren Burton Road, Southington, was given a nine-month prison term after pleading guilty last November to a fourth-degree felony assault on a police officer charge. The case involved an incident on Jan. 29, 2023 where 30 to 35 people were gathered in the Sheetz on East Market Street in Warren drinking and smoking. When the people refused to leave, police were called to break up the gathering. At that time, Owens became combative with officers and punched one in the eye, reports stated. Judge Logan said Owens was not eligible for probation because of his extensive criminal history and seriousness of the offense.

In another matter, the Supreme Court of Ohio this week filed an entry state the high court declines to accept jurisdiction of the appeal of Kemari D. James, In October 2023, 11th District Judges Matt J. Lynch, Mary Jane Trapp and John Eklund ruled in favor of the state against James who was appealing his convictions for murder, attempted murder, having weapons while under disability and escape.
