Niles man pleads guilty to sneaking drugs into Trumbull County Jail

A 38-year-old Niles man pleaded guilty Monday before Judge Cynthia Rice of Trumbull County Common Pleas Court to a case involving carrying drugs into the Trumbull County Jail.

Bret L. Brown Sr. will be sentenced after he undergoes a background investigation conducted by county probation officers. He pleaded guilty to illegal conveyance of drugs into a governmental facility and possession of cocaine. He faces a maximum four-year prison sentence.

The case involved a March 1, 2023, where Brown was being booked into jail and deputies found substances that later tested positive for 0.32 grams of cocaine, prosecutors said. Records show Brown will remain free on bond until sentencing.

In other cases before Judge Rice on Monday:

• Tiffany D. McGill, 35, of Highland Avenue Southwest, Warren, was remanded to county jail until a bed is available at the Northeast Ohio Community Alternative Program (NEOCAP) facility after she was found guilty of a probation violation for a 2018 conviction of having weapons while under disability, carrying concealed weapons, improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle and tampering with evidence. She had violated parole because she has failed to report to probation offices since April 2023 and has failed drug tests. Judge Rice warned McGill that if she violated probation again, she could face a maximum of eight years in prison. NEOCAP is a lockdown facility that teaches life skills and drug rehabilitation over a six-month prison.
• Joseph Harris, 39, of Youngstown, was given a 180-day jail sentence after admitting to violating probation for a 2019 drug possession conviction. Probation officers also stated that Harris recently had drug possession convictions in Mahoning County courts. After his jail sentence is completed, Harris will have his probation terminated, the judge ruled.
