Trumbull County canine responder competing in photo challenge

The Trumbull County sheriff office’s canine officer Lincoln has been entered in the Light Ohio Blue’s first ever Fur Responders photo challenge.

The contest honors the first responders who walk on four legs and work to keep Ohioans safe. Photos are posted for public voting on Ohio’s 2024 FUR Responder Photo Challenge – Light Ohio Blue (www.lightohioblue.org) until Jan. 31. Lincoln is competing in the Category of fur responders that serve populations of 100,000 or more.

The winners will be presented with their awards during a ceremony in Central Ohio that will take place in May.

Lincoln is a 2-year-old, 95-pound Belgian Malinois who has worked for the Sheriff’s Office since April 2022. Lincoln is a dual-purpose dog trained in drug detection, apprehension and patrol work. His handler is sheriff’s detective Andre Jarrette. His roles include sniffing the jail to find contraband, assisting with road interdiction unit. He also works on the TAG Unit

According to Sheriff Paul Monroe, a local veterinarian donated his services for routine checkups, while a local foundation has made a large donation to the canine unit for food, equipment, supplies and emergency medical expenses. Lincoln was donated to the sheriff’s office by Alpha Pack K-9, located in New Middletown, which also took care of the canine’s training costs.
