Zoldan family temporarily suspends $5 million donation to Youngstown State
The Zoldan Family Foundation in Youngstown is temporarily suspending monetary donations to Youngstown State University while former U.S. Congressman Bill Johnson is in the president’s office.
Bruce Zoldan, founder and CEO of Phantom Fireworks, previously offered a $5 million donation for a new student center at YSU.
But after the YSU Board of Trustees’ closed-door presidential selection process,, Zoldan said they’ve decided to suspend donations to YSU for the time being.
Originally, the family said they’d “resume donations 60 days after Johnson is removed as president and ‘there is a transparent search’ for his replacement,” according to David Skolnick at The Vindicator.
The proposed Zoldan Family Student Center would have been built on the current site of Kilcawley Center with an updated food court, as well as meeting rooms and offices for student organizations.
Until Johnson is no longer president, the Zoldan Foundation won’t make any additional donations.
We’ve reached out to Rebecca Rose with YSU and will update with more information from the university.
