Man beaten, robbed while walking in Youngstown northside neighborhood
Youngstown police investigated after a man reported he was beaten and robbed this weekend while enjoying a walk around his neighborhood on the northside of the city, according to police.
Youngstown Police Department reports say the robbery happened some time in the afternoon on Saturday while the man was walking north on Griffith Street.
According to YPD reports, he said a black short bed pickup truck that looked new and clean approached him.
He didn’t remember if it was a Chevy or Ford, reports say, but inside the truck he could see three men.
According to reports, the driver started to ask the victim if he wanted to buy any drugs, according to the statement in the reports.
The victim said no and kept walking on Griffith Street, but told police he felt “the vehicle still following him.”
The three men inside the car offered to sell the victim drugs again, according to reports.
Then the driver and the passenger got out of the car while the victim was walking on the sidewalk between Fairgreen and Delaware Avenues on Griffith Street.
According to reports, the driver punched the victim in the side of his face, which cause him to fall to the ground.
While on the ground, reports say “the driver continued to punch him in the head while the passenger recorded the assault on a cell phone.”
Then reports say the two men stole the victim’s Samsung Z-Fold phone and got back in the car.
According to the victim, the third person in the car never got out, and he last saw the truck driving west away from him on Delaware Avenue.
Police searched the area shortly after getting his statement, but didn’t find the truck. Police tried to find the phone but its last location was still coming up as Fairgreen Avenue where the robbery happened.
