City of Youngstown firefighters take down structure fire on the south side, no one injured
Several firefighters and battalion chiefs responded and successfully put out a house fire on the south side of the city of Youngstown.
The fire happened Tuesday night at a house on Craiger Avenue.
According to Jon Racco, president of Youngstown Professional Firefighters, seven units responded to put out the fire and get into the structure.
“No brownouts or closures yesterday really gave us the advantage to getting a fast response and the fire under control timely,” said Racco.
A brownout is a temporary closure of a station due to budget and staffing.
Firefighters from Station 9 on Midlothian Boulevard arrived on Craiger Avenue first.
Engine started suppressing the heavy flames and received help from Engine 2 and Ladder 24 from the Indianola station who arrived around the same time.
More ladder trucks and battalion chiefs arrived to help get inside the house.
At first, when the call came in, it was unknown if the house was occupied, but firefighters from Station 6 on Shehy Street searched inside to be sure.
According to first responders, no one was located inside the house.
