The Youngstown State University administration is working out the details to transfer Eastern Gateway Community College students’ credits and keep them on the path toward completing their degrees at YSU instead.

The university held a virtual information session for about 200 EGCC students who were getting their nursing degrees. Faculty members and academic leadership from YSU and EGCC answered questions during the meeting. YSU’s admissions and financial aid team was also present.

Sara Michaliszyn, associate dean of YSU’s Bitonte College of Health and Human Services, said the main priority is establishing a pathway for EGCC students on the Associate Degree of Nursing path.

“I understand why so many are feeling anxious,” said Michaliszyn. “We are all working hard behind the scenes to develop a very simple transition into the ADN program at YSU.”

The Bitonte College of Health and Human Services is working with EGCC’s Associate Degree of Nursing program director, Dana Meadows.

“What we know now is not only will the students’ curriculum continue without a delay in graduation, but that the EGCC ADN students located in Steubenville will be able to continue their education at Steubenville,” said Meadows.

In a release from YSU News Center, administrators wrote: “YSU remains steadfast in its promise to provide a seamless transition for EGCC ADN students, empowering them to continue their education and achieve their academic goals without interruption.”

Orientation for the nursing students is scheduled for late March or early April for the program.

There are more virtual information events coming up for EGCC students in different programs about transferring into Beeghly College of Liberal Arts, Social Sciences and Education and the Williamson College of Business at YSU.

According to YSU, these sessions allow transferring students to ask questions and hear from faculty and academic advisors as well as representatives from admissions and financial aid.
