Contractor sentenced to community service after pleading guilty to theft charges
The Mahoning County Prosecutor’s Office said a contractor entered a guilty plea to charges after he accepted money from clients without doing any work.
The prosecutor’s office said 41-year-old John Bartos pleaded guilty to 18 charges against him yesterday.
After pleading guilty, he’ll be doing four years of community service at Habitat for Humanity, according to the prosecutor’s office.
Bartos plead guilty to 11 felonious counts of theft and six felonious county of theft from a person in a protected class, which are fifth and fourth degree felonies.
Bartos also pleaded guilty to one count of grant theft, a fourth-degree felony.
Prosecutors said as part of his scam, Bartos would take payment for jobs and not complete them, “leaving homeowners with partially completed work within their homes.”
A judge also ordered Bartos pay $56,176 in restitution before his sentencing, plus an additional $5,000 back to each customer he stole from.
