Local pizza shops and breweries competed in the Slice of the Valley to find out whose pizza is the best in the Mahoning Valley.

The annual pizza and beer competition took place yesterday from 4 - 7 p.m. in the Eastwood Event Centre at the Eastwood Mall in Niles.

Judges picked Jimmy Neno’s for first place for best plain pizza, and Cocca’s Pizza got the first place trophy for specialty pizzas.

It was judged by special guests including Cleveland Cavaliers announcer Sean Peebles, former quarterback Kelly Holcomb and former running back Peyton Hillis who both played with the Cleveland Browns.

The panel of guest judges also included locals like Jeremy and Gracie Oklota from Youngstown Pizza Reviews, radio host Dan Rivers and musician Doug Thomas.

Local business owners also competed for attendee’s choice for best pizza and best beer, as well as a new award for people’s choice for best wings.
