Boardman police were called to an area near Willow Drive and Market Street at 6:19 a.m. Monday in response to a reported argument between a husband and wife that resulted in her attacking him with a pair of scissors.

According to the report, the wife was allegedly intoxicated when she became upset at her husband for using a dishcloth. An argument ensued for a short time before she reportedly retreated to the kitchen and returned with a pair of scissors.

Reports say the woman again accused her husband of using the dishcloth while pressing the pointed end of the scissors against the side of the husband’s head, the report states. He pushed her away, and she swung the scissors at his face, at which point he walked out of the apartment.

He told police his wife then began poking him in the back with the scissors as he was walking away from her. She followed him westbound on Willow Drive walking towards Market Street, according to the report, until she realized he had called the police and walked back toward her apartment.

What police say happened when they arrived

Police arrived at the apartment and found the screen door locked. The report states that the officer used a crowbar to pry the screen door open without causing damage. The husband then used his keys to attempt to unlock the main door, but his wife kept pushing the door back closed and relocking the bolt.

Officers announced themselves several times as the police during this back and forth.

The report states that after several attempts, the police were finally able to force the door open and enter the apartment. The officers advised the wife that she was under arrest and to turn around, which she refused, continuously saying “I am not going outside or getting arrested.”

She locked up her arms, not allowing the police officers to handcuff her. The report states that once she was finally handcuffed, she locked her legs and refused to be escorted outside, saying “you’re going to have to beat me down, I’m not going outside, and I’m not arrested.”

The police report states that officers used the escort position to get her outside and to the cruiser, where she once again resisted getting in the vehicle. She was forcefully put in the seat and after several minutes, calmed down and placed both feet in the cruiser.

The husband provided a written statement as well as photographs of his injuries, which included a cut on the side of his head and inside his ear. The report states that the scissors were found on the coffee table and taken into the Boardman Police Department and logged as evidence.

The report states that the wife was charged with domestic violence and felonious assault, as well as obstructing official business and resisting arrest. She was taken to Mahoning County Jail pending her court date.
