Officers were called about 11:40 p.m. to the South Side apartment to find another man standing over the victim, holding pressure on the gunshot wound.

What happened in the shooting?

Officers noted the victim had an exit wound on his back left of his spine. Paramedics arrived shortly thereafter to begin medical treatment on the victim.

The victim was reportedly trying to get the pistol out of his pocket when the gun discharged.

The firearm, a Taurus G3 XL 9mm was found behind a piece of furniture in a hallway. Officers recovered a spent casing while securing the firearm, which was found to be stolen, the report stated.
