A man was arrested Wednesday morning after walking into the Youngstown Police Department’s lobby to report that his girlfriend was attempting to steal his vehicle.

According to the police report, an officer was helping a citizen in the lobby of the Youngstown Police Department office on Boardman Street. A man entered and stated that a woman was attempting to steal his vehicle that was parked outside.

Reports said the vehicle was a light blue Chevrolet Aveo.

As the officer approached from the police station, the woman exited the vehicle. The report states that the woman told the officer the man accusing her of stealing the car was her live-in boyfriend and that they are currently homeless, living out of the Chevrolet.

The report states that she continued to explain that the man had punched her in the face while the two were arguing when driving eastbound over the Marshall Street bridge.

The officer observed blood coming from her nostril and dry blood on her lip. The report states that she did not want to press charges and refused medical treatment for her injured nose. The boyfriend was placed under arrest due to the officer observing the injury.

The boyfriend was charged with domestic violence and transported to The Mahoning County Justice Center without bond pending arraignment. The Chevrolet Aveo was towed and is being held for safekeeping.
