National Weather Service confirms tornado reported in Southington and Champion Townships

The Cleveland office of the National Weather Service has confirmed two tornadoes from Thursday night’s severe storms, including one in Trumbull County after preliminary damage survey results.

Officials from the office said an EF-0 tornado touched down shortly after 7 p.m. for five minutes in Southington and Champion Townships. The wind speed hit 80 miles per hour, and the tornado was just under three miles long and 20 yards wide.

Tornadoes rank from EF-0, the least powerful to EF-5, the most powerful.

In Windham, an EF-1 tornado touched down at 6:46 p.m. for five minutes. Wind speeds hit 110 miles per hour, and the tornado was just under four miles long and 35 yards wide.
