Event organizer Chelsea Wisbar said families from throughout the Mahoning Valley area are invited to participate in free hands-on STEAM activities and demonstrations at Glenwood Junior High’s Family STEAM night.

It’s happening from 6- 8 p.m. this Thursday at Glenwood Junior High in Boardman.

“We have had hundreds turn out and this year we expect it to be even bigger with even more for families to experience and enjoy,” said Wisbar.

What can families do at the event?

Families will participate in activities meant to further their understanding of science, math and art in everyday life.

Local businesses are participating this year by setting up booths and selling their merchandise, as well as demonstrating how their craft works in the art and science world.

Learn weaving techniques with the Three Sheep Gallery and Workshop, which is based in Boardman.

Boardman’s ECO educators are back with science-based demonstrations and will talk about their upcoming events with Bending Oak permaculture farm and work promoting the local ecosystems.

There’s a stop motion animation station and tools to do your own 3-D printing and designing with 3-D pens.

Families will get to see hands-on workshops led by seventh and eighth grade students, as well as the junior high’s robotics team demonstrate their engineering skills in a “Battle of the Best” robotics contest.

Youngstown State University students will also showcase live painting skills and sell their designs and artwork.

The community and students of all ages are welcome to demo the equipment and tools that are for Glenwood’s Art and Maker Space Programs, according to Wisbar.
