Mahoning Valley ninth through twelfth grade artists submitted their pieces to be featured in an exhibit called Hope and Healing.

According to Prosecutor Gina DeGenova, the Hope and Healing exhibit is all about celebrating the therapeutic power of art itself. The pieces aim to help community members affected by crime and overcoming personal challenges.

“We were ecstatic by the number of art submissions we received. I would hope the permanent installation of the winning pieces stands as a reminder that midst life’s unforeseen trials, hope persists and healing is possible,” DeGenova said,

The Mahoning County Prosecutor’s Office is unveiling the first annual art exposition in the Mahoning County Court of Common Pleas, with an opening reception at 10 a.m. on May 1 in the courthouse rotunda.

The exhibit is a collaboration between DeGenova and Joyce Mistovich, director of education at The Butler Institute of American Art.

Three pieces from each grade were picked by a selection committee to be part of the long-term installation near the Victim Witness Office located on the lower level of the Courthouse.
