FirstEnergy planting hundreds of trees throughout Mahoning Valley for Arbor Day

Arbor Day is today and FirstEnergy is one of many organizations throughout the country commemorating the holiday with tree-plantings.
Across the country, volunteers with FirstEnergy, Ohio Edison and Penn Power are expected to plant 17,000 trees in April and a total of 25,000 by the end of the year.
Since 2021, they’ve planted more than 5,000 trees total in the Mahoning and Shenango valleys.
In the Mahoning Valley, volunteers are planting trees at several locations throughout the Mahoning Valley area.
They’re starting at Boardman Township’s Collier Preserve, part of the Mill Creek MetroParks network of parks, lakes and other natural resources.
It’s the fourth year in a row volunteers have spruced up Collier Preserve by planting 300 hardwood trees in celebration of Arbor and Earth days.

The tree-planting starts at 9 a.m. Friday at the 300-acre preserve.
Volunteers are also at the Beaver Township Nature Preserve in North Lima planting about 160 trees.
On April 29, FirstEnergy and Penn Power employees will plant approximately 200 trees in Buhl Park in Hermitage.
FirstEnergy employees will be heading to the Poland Municipal Forest in Poland on May 3 to plant about 250 trees throughout the property.
Two weeks ago, FirstEnergy planted 100 trees at Swampoodle Park in Harmony Township in Mercer County, on April 11.
