Youngstown journalists honoring media workers killed in the world last year
This week, local journalists are honoring World Press Freedom Day by remembering fellow members of the media who lost their lives last year.
On Friday at noon, the Youngstown Press Club members are reading the names of 99 journalists killed during the past year.
According to preliminary figures from the Committee to Protect Journalists, since Oct. 7, 95 media professionals have been killed while working their jobs.
In 2022, 67 journalists were killed, and 45 journalists were killed in 2021.
There will also be a speech from Judge Theresa Dellick of Mahoning County Juvenile Court.
It’s happening at noon on Friday in the Mahoning County Courthouse rotunda, 120 Market St. in Youngstown.
The event is free and open to the community.
