3 stabbings, one assault reported this week at Northeast Ohio Correctional Center
Three stabbings and one assault have been reported this week at Northeast Ohio Correctional Center, 2240 Hubbard Road in Youngstown.
Staff informed Youngstown police that an alteration occurred at the private prison about 1 p.m. on May 15.
According to the report, an inmate in custody by the U.S. Marshal’s Service assaulted two other inmates with a broom stick while they were in the dayroom area of the prison. Staff told the officers that no serious injuries were observed after the combatants were checked out by the prison’s health staff.
Police were again called to the private prison on Hubbard Road to investigate a stabbing of an inmate about 5:48 a.m. on May 16.
According to the police report, the injured inmate was bleeding heavily, sustaining a large cut to the palm area of his right hand and puncture wounds to his right leg. The injuries were not life-threatening, and the victim was treated by the prison’s health staff inside the facility.
The report stated another inmate admitted to stabbing the man, but no arrests were made. Prison staff had recovered a piece of metal filed down to a point, which is suspected to be the weapon used in the attack, the report stated.
In addition, another stabbing was reported Monday along with an assault on Wednesday.
