Canfield Middle School students take part in event with Mahoning Valley Manufacturing Coalition
In another career day experience sponsored by the Mahoning Valley Manufacturing Coalition, some 200 Canfield Middle School eighth graders participated in a May 3 event at the school.
Representatives from some manufacturers engaged with the students in hands-on activities like a jelly bean building challenge and a race with personal protection gear, with items for the race provided by U.S. SafetyGear.
Other manufacturers that had exhibits were Brilex, Hynes Industries, Novelis and Trivium Packaging. The students asked questions about the jobs and available and the possibility about staying home in the Mahoning Valley for a career.
Middle School Principal Judd Rubin told reporters that the school has been doing this event for five years and students come back to tell him that career day helped them to choose majors in architecture or engineering.
“Some ended up in skill trades,” Rubin said. “We do try to have a wide array for every student here to choose a pathway.”
