Rashawn Jordan, 36, of Warren, pleaded guilty on May 14 to an amended indictment charging him with involuntary manslaughter with a firearm specification and two counts having weapons while under disability.

Jordan was convicted in the Sept. 24, 2023, shooting death of Eric Shannon in the 1100 block of McMyler Street Northwest in Warren.

First Assistant Prosecutor Christopher Becker said the victim was shot four times. The case was investigated by Warren Detective John Greaver who used several conversations over social media and emails to help solve the case, Becker stated.

Following Jordan’s plea, Judge Ronald J. Rice sentenced Jordan to an aggregate indefinite term of 14 to 19 ½ years in state prison including a mandatory three-year sentence because a gun was used in the crime. Jordan was legally prohibited from carrying firearms because of a conviction for a violence offense in 2012 in Trumbull County and two local drug convictions in 2016.

Judge Rice said tragedy is bound to strike when you mix “anger, guns, and violence.” The defendant turned to the victim’s family and apologized for the crime, saying he wished it hadn’t happened.

The victim’s brother, Rashawn Shannon, delivered a victim’s impact statement saying the family spent a lot of sleepless nights and emotions. “At the end of the day, nobody wins (in this case) since I can’t get my brother back,” he told the judge.
