Youngstown man accused of strangling child’s mother in moving vehicle
A Youngstown man was taken into custody on May 20 for abusing his child’s mother.
Youngstown police arrested Raymond Gordon on felony strangulation and resistance of arrest charges. Gordon and his ex were driving in a red SUV, and after an argument, he repeatedly punched her, slapped her, and started choking her, according to a police report.
Police said due to heavy resistance upon being arrested, Gordon had to be tased three times before he was subdued inside the police car.
What did the victim report?
The victim, whose name was redacted, gave a statement to police that she and Gordon had a child together, and Gordon had asked to meet up to give her some money. Police said Gordon and her then got into a vehicle and started driving to Forest View.
While she was driving, Gordon initiated that he wanted to rekindle their relationship, to which the victim refused. Gordon then got increasingly angry and violent, accusing her of taking his money to see another man, according to the police report.
Gordon struck the victim in the face and started strangling her while she was driving, according to reports, which added the victim stopped the car in the middle of the road to escape Gordon, but he pulled her by her hair and continued beating her.
She told police was not the first occasion where she was beaten by the defendant.
Police say victim was injured
Police observed that the victim’s right eye and face were bruised and swollen on the scene, reports indicated. When they attempted to arrest Gordon, he refused to comply and resisted arrest, police said.
Police said he refused to put his hands behind his back and laid on his hands stop being handcuffed. Upon warning Gordon, an officer tased him once and after he continued to resist, tased him a second time, according to the report.
As police started taking Gordon into the car, he began thrashing and kicking, reports indicated, adding he was then kneed once by an officer in an effort to subdue him and then tased after continuing the violent behavior.
Gordon was transported to Mercy Health Hospital to receive treatment.
