Buzzing new Cirque de Soleil show coming to Covelli Center. Here’s when to check it out.
OVO, part of Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group, is kicking off its North American tour, which will start with a return visit to Youngstown this summer.
The OVO colony and crew, a vibrant tapestry of 100 individuals from 25 different countries, is a testament to the show’s global appeal and cultural richness.
Since their first show in 2009 in Montreal, they’ve been performing for the past 15 years as one of several traveling Cirque du Soleil experiences setting up shows worldwide.
The name translates to egg in Portuguese.
When does the show launch in Youngstown?
In June, OVO performs their three-act show in Youngstown at the Covelli Centre for three days of shows.
This year, the performers in OVO are decked out as insects, like ladybugs, praying mantis, beetles, crickets, and a spider in her web, dazzling the crowd with high-level acrobatic acts and stunts.
It’s a larger-than-life show for all ages that examines the biodiversity of insects, described as the “hidden, secret world at our feet... revealed as tender and torrid, noisy and quiet, peaceful and chaotic.”
The premiere starts at 7 p.m. June 7 at the Covelli Centre downtown. Then there are two shows at 3 and 7 p.m. on June 8, before the finale at 1 p.m. on June 9.
Tickets are available online.
