How to adopt a dog through the Mahoning County Dog Warden, plus upcoming events
Interested in learning more about adopting a new best friend through the Mahoning County Dog Warden?
Here’s what you’ll need to know about applications and fees in Mahoning County:
If you want to learn about adoption, don’t just leave a comment on the Mahoning County Dog Warden Facebook page.
Send an email to ssabol@mahoningcountyoh.gov to request an official application.
Once the application gets approved, the warden’s office will call and set up a meet-and-greet.
If you don’t hear from them within two or three business days, call the office to follow up on the application status.
To speed up the process, fill out the application completely with:
- Legal first and last name of applicant
- Phone number
- Full Address- including city, state and zip code
- Landlord’s contact information
There is a fee starting at $170 for all adoptions.

The office is open 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday; 8 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday and 9 a.m. until noon on Saturday.
Save the date for some upcoming fundraisers to support the veterinarian bills for all the animals:
- Basket Raffle from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. on June 8 at Davidson’s Restaurant at 3636 Canfield Road in Canfield
- Christimas in July from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. July 21 at the Mahoning County Dog Warden’s office on Meridian Road in Youngstown
- Golfing at Knoll Run Golf Course at 9 a.m. Sept. 14 at 1421 Struthers Coitsville Road in Lowellville
- Second annual chili cook-off at 5 p.m. Oct. 11 at Penguin City Brewing Company in Youngstown
