Gas prices going down nationally; what does this mean for northeast Ohio drivers?

According to AAA, oil prices are going down, and the average for a gallon of gasoline in the U.S. fell six cents since last week to $3.53.

It’s the largest one-week decrease so far in 2024.

Today’s national average is 13 cents compared to last month, and two cents lower than a year ago.

Gas prices falling in Northeast Ohio

At pumps across the northeast Ohio region, the average price for gas is now 11 cents lower this week at $3.442 per gallon, according to AAA East Central’s Gas Price Report.

In Youngstown, a gallon of gas is around $3.43, while drivers in New Philadelphia are paying closer to $3.60 per gallon.

As the price of oil decrease, AAA said the demand for gas fell slightly from 9.31 barrels per day to 9.14 last week.

Last week, domestically there was an increase of 226.8 million barrels of gas to 228.8 million barrels.

When gas prices could go up this summer

Prices could go back up as the hurricane season starts this summer.

Experts at AAA said it’s important to remember that a storm impacting the Gulf Cost oil production and refining centers could affect gas prices here.
