Broken fences reported behind Boardman shop. Police say suspect sought discarded vapes
Boardman police discovered a path of deliberately knocked down fences that led to someone digging through the dumpster behind a smoke shop.
Police were dispatched to the Subway plaza on Youngstown Poland Road after a maintenance employee for the plaza reported destruction of property within the area, according to a police report.
The employee reported that a fence he repaired was knocked over with the pickets seemingly kicked down. This opened an entryway from the north side of the plaza to directly behind Struthers Vape on Youngstown Poland Road, according to the police report.
After police investigated the dumpster area behind the smoke shop, they found multiple torn garbage bags near the dumpsters with trash strewn all over the back.
Officers noted that hundreds of torn packages of vapes and smoking devices were inside the trash bags, according to the police report. Beer cans were also found in the area.
Officers believe that an unknown suspect had been dumpster diving for discarded vapes, according to the report.
The plaza employee told police that he received complaints from the managers of the smoke shop regarding the matter and wanted a criminal damaging and litter report filed when the suspect is caught.
