Trumbull County priest resigns under investigation for 1980s allegation
This month, a priest resigned from his role as the Dean of Trumbull County, according to Reverend David J. Bonnar, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown.
Reverend Michael A. Swierz worked as the pastor of Saint Patrick Parish, as well as the president of Saint Joseph the Provider School and the Dean of Trumbull County.
Swierz resigned after being placed on administrative leave for “admitted actions that constituted violations of Diocesan policies,” according to Bishop Bonnar.
“The actions at issue occurred while he was at St. Rose Parish, Girard in the late 1980’s. The investigation into these matters is ongoing and Father Swierz is cooperating in the investigation,” he said.
Bishop Bonnar said the Diocese won’t provide any more comments on either the investigation or Swierz’s situation at this time.
