A 72-year-old man in a wheelchair was arrested for assault after a server at the restaurant inside the Holiday Inn on South Avenue in Boardman accused him of slapping her wrist as she tried to take his alcoholic drink away from him on July 1.

Winford M. Yaslik of East Wood Street, Youngstown, was booked into Mahoning County jail on the assault charge which will be dispensed in Mahoning County Court in Boardman.

Jail records show his bond was set at $1,500 after Yaslik pleaded not guilty during arraignment on July 2. Judge Joseph Houser has scheduled a pretrial for 9 a.m. July 23. Yaslik was declared indigent, and the judge appointed counsel for him.

Yalik was identified as the man in the wheelchair who has been staying at the Boardman hotel for about a week, according to the police report. The hotel manager stated Yaslik has been a constant problem with him drinking too much alcohol and getting belligerent with other guests in name-calling.

On the night of July 1, the report stated the man became angry when the restaurant supervisor cut him off from drinking. When the woman tried to take his glass away, he smacked her right wrist, the report stated.

The woman told officers Yaslik was cut off because he was becoming rude and saying inappropriate things. When she grabbed his glass, the report stated, a short tug-of-war ensued and the man struck her right wrist with an open hand.

She said she wanted to pursue charges after the pain her wrist started radiating up to her forearm, the report stated.
