A Youngstown nonprofit theater invites the community to laugh along to an entertaining production of Monty Python’s Spamalot - a hilarious retelling of the King Arthur stories.

The Millennial Theatre Company (MTC) will perform the show at the Youngstown Playhouse over a series of dates with the first two shows set for Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Monty Python’s Spamalot was originally created as a Broadway musical production by English playwright Eric Idle. The play retells the legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table.

MTC boasts that the play is sure to make an audience “look on the bright side of life” with its bevy of beautiful show girls, cows, killer rabbits and French people.

Director Joe Asente states that this musical is the perfect summer production for MTC that has “something for everyone.”

“We always try to pick a summer show that is fun, splashy, light, and an escape from reality, and I think Spamalot is all of that and more,” Asente said. “We have had a somewhat dark season of shows this year, so we thought it was more important than ever for us to pick a fun, lighthearted show to round out our season.”

Asente went on to revel at Spamalot, which had won “Best Musical” at the Tony Awards when it first opened. It has since enjoyed a national tour and has had a recent Broadway revival.

Tickets for the show start at $20 and can be bought online. The last show will be held on Aug. 4.
