Mercy Health Youngstown employees spent a special birthday lunch with one of the beloved Sisters of the Humility of Mary, Sister Margaret Mary Siegfried.

Sister Siegfried first worked as a pharmacist at Mercy Health before retiring in .
Even after retirement, Sister Siegfried was an active volunteer with the Sisters of the Humility of Mary around St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
“Everybody knows Sister Margaret Mary,” said Mercy Health St. Elizabeth Youngstown president Kathy Harley. “She’s been very much embedded in saving lives. The one thing she’ll always tell you is to hug heart to heart, something she told me the Dalai Lama taught her that personally.”

The Sisters of the Humility of Mary are a group of women who first founded Mercy Health’s healthcare ministry celebrating their 170-year anniversary.
The Sisters of the Humility of Mary first came to the U.S. to help northeast Ohio and western Pennsylvania residents in need.
Their birthplace is the Villa Maria Community Center, an 18-minute drive from Youngstown.
Today, the women visit patients in Mercy Health hospitals in the Mahoning Valley, as well as organize annual service projects like the Humility of Mary Day.
