Sweet Memories Vintage Tees & Candy bringing sweet treats to upcoming Fall Lit Festival
It’s almost time for the eighth annual Fall Literary Festival starting Thursday at Youngstown State University.
The three-day event at YSU featuring author readings, a book fair, workshops and book signings is catered toward local readers, students, poets, authors and editors.
As part of a new partnership, Sweet Memories Vintage Tees & Candy announced they’re providing free Good Humor Ice Cream Bars to registered participants at the Fall Lit Fest.
“We want to celebrate our literary and cultural history and maybe even show off our city a little bit,” said Lit Youngstown director Karen Schubert. “We are so grateful to our community partners, including Sweet Memories, for helping us create a meaningful experience.”
This year’s featured writers are: Hanif Abdurraqib, a Columbus writer who is a MacArthur “Genius” Award fellow and New Yorker columnist, Youngstown native and poet Ama Codjoe and award winning fiction writer Rachel Swearingen of Chicago.
The registration closed for Fall Lit Fest, but there are also free evening readings and events for community members to attend.
On Friday, hear Abdurraqib read from his new book, There’s Always This Year: On Basketball and Ascension, at 7 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Youngstown.
On Saturday, hear readings from two more featured authors, Codjoe and Swearingen, at the Tyler History Center while enjoying free Good Humor Ice Cream Bars in the place they were invented.
The evening readings are free and open to the public starting at 7 p.m. in Youngstown.
Vintage Tees & Candy is open every day from 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. at 1282 Trumbull Ave. A1 in Girard.
They’re the leading, woman-owned manufacturer of officially licensed, retro-inspired apparel specializing in all things sweet in Mahoning Valley history.
