Criteria for best hospitals
To be named Best Regional Hospital, a facility needs to:
- Earn at least eight High Performing ratings out of the 22 evaluated procedures and conditions
- Have at least five more High Performing ratings than the total number of Evaluated ratings (the lowest rating tier) it received
- Offers a full range of general medical and surgical services (as opposed to a specialty hospital)
To be considered for evaluation, a hospital has to meet at least one of the following criteria:
- It was a teaching hospital
- It was affiliated with a medical school
- It had at least 200 beds set up and staffed
- It had at least 100 beds and offered at least four out of eight advanced technologies associated with high-quality care, such as a PET/CT scanner and certain precision radiation therapies
