Winners of Second Harvest Food Bank’s Canstruction contest announced
For the last three years, Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley has hosted a friednly design and build competition with the help of the Eastwood Mall.
The Canstruction contest brings together local teams who transformed nonperishable food items into large-scale sculptures — all to help raise awareness about hunger in the Mahoning Valley.
Second Harvest announced this year’s Canstruction award winners, including:
- Structural Ingenuity: Goldfish Bowl – Gateways to Better Living
- Best Meal: Crab – Cafaro Company
- Best Use of Labels: Jonah and the Whale – Niles First Christian Church
- Best Original Design/Most Cans: Kraken – Ultium Cells
All Canstruction displays will remain on exhibit at the Eastwood Mall Complex until tear-down day on June 12.
Community members can still participate in the annual event by voting for the People’s Choice Award at the mall service desk until tear-down day.
After June 12, all canned and nonperishable food items used in the displays will be donated to Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley to help support individuals and families facing food insecurity throughout Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties.
