Starting May 16, the Mahoning Valley Freedom Fighters and Honeycomb Arts & Wellness Collective are joining forces to foster fresh fruits and vegetables for all of Youngstown.

Volunteers are needed to help with the two-day event focused on creating raised garden beds at the Honeycomb Arts & Wellness on Belmont Avenue.

The Honeycomb Arts & Wellness is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing safe space for art, music, movement, nourishment and community.

Once the beds are built, volunteers will help plant a variety of vegetables, herbs, fruits and flowers.

Organizers are setting up on May 16 and May 17 between noon - 8 p.m. at and ask participants to bring:

  • Work gloves
  • Gardening tools
  • Seeds or starter plants
  • Water bottles
  • Lawn chairs or blankets
  • Shelf-stable food donations for local Freedom Pantries

This event is directly supporting ongoing local food access initiatives and sustainability projects organized by the Community Liberation Foundation and Mahoning Valley Freedom Fighters.

Earlier this year, the Mahoning Valley Freedom Fighters installed Freedom Fighter Family Pantries, open 24/7, 365 days a year for anyone in need, no questions asked, no registration or signup required.
