Youngstown State Men’s Basketball Head Coach Jerrod Calhoun was named the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) District 12 Coach of the Year, and senior Dwayne Cohill was named First-Team All-District, the NABC announced on Tuesday.

The NABC has released the 2022-23 NABC Division I All-District Teams and District Coaches of the Year. The All-District honors are voted on by NABC-member coaches across NCAA Division I.

Calhoun led Youngstown State to the first regular-season conference championship in program history with a 15-5 Horizon League record and was named the 2022-23 Horizon League Coach of the Year. He is the first coach in YSU history to earn a district coach-of-the-year award.

The sixth-year mentor also led the Penguins to a program-record tying 24 wins this season, and guided the Penguins to the first National Invitation Tournament berth in program history.

Cohill, an All-Horizon League First-Team selection in 2022-23, leads the Penguins with 17.8 points and 4.8 assists per game, and shot 51.3 percent from the field, 43.2 percent from 3-point range and 86.4 percent from the free-throw line.

Cohill, who is just the second player in program history to score at least 500 points with at least 150 assists, ranks second in the Horizon League in assists per game, fifth in free-throw percentage and field-goal percentage, and sixth in scoring.

He is just the fourth player in school history to earn all-district honors and the first since 2019-20. Cohill is also just the third to be named all-district first-team and the first since 2016-17.
