Austintown Fitch softball standout Sydnie Watts headed to Georgia Tech
Junior Sydnie Watts, one of the top high school softball pitchers in the nation, has made her collegiate choice.
Watts, who led Austintown Fitch to the Division I state championship last spring, has committed to continue her academic and softball career with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets of the Atlantic Coast Conference. She committed to Georgia Tech this week.
Watts led the Falcons to a perfect 22-0-2 record last spring as Fitch captured its first-ever state title in softball when it defeated Anthony Wayne 6-1 in the Division I state championship game at Firestone Park in Akron on June 3. In that game, Watts tossed a two-hitter while striking out 13 batters.
Watts, a right-handed pitcher, finished last season with an incredible 0.38 ERA as the Falcons shut out 15 of their 24 opponents.
How Sydnie Watts also has excelled as a batter
Watts is also a great hitter and ended the 2023 campaign with a .544 batting average. She also hit six home runs.
Watts is one of several Fitch standouts that return for the Falcons this season as the school will be one of the top D1 contenders again in the chase for the 2024 state championship.
Georgia Tech has qualified for the D1 NCAA tournament on 12 different occasions, the last time occurring in the 2022 season.
