BELOIT - The 16th annual Ryan Johnson Memorial 5K is slated May 18 on the grounds of West Branch High School at 9 a.m.

The race, which is for runners, walkers and riders, starts and ends between West Branch High School and West Branch Middle School. Participants also travel on Main Street in Beloit.

Last year’s race drew 113 runners despite some rainy conditions.

The race is held each year to honor the memory of Ryan Johnson, a West Branch High School athlete who tragically passed away after running a leg of a four×800 relay during a West Branch track meet in 2008.

Johnson, who was a young man of faith, was an inspiration to all who knew him.

Proceeds from the race fund scholarships for graduating West Branch High School students who are selected annually by a committee.

Awards are presented after the race.
