Austintown Fitch, Canfield tied at top of Mahoning Matters Super 7 softball poll

This week, there’s a rare tie for first place in the Mahoning Matters Super 7 softball poll between state powers Austintown Fitch and Canfield.
Austintown Fitch
Austintown Fitch, which is 9-1, is tied with Canfield for No. 1 in the rankings and deservedly so as the two teams have split their season series, with Fitch winning 5-0 in their season opener at Fitch and the Cardinals, besting the Falcons 2-1 in their rematch at Canfield.
Fitch has won five games in a row and outscored its opponents during that run, 58-6.
Canfield
Canfield (13-1) has won 13 straight games and is coming off three straight shutout wins over Boardman (6-0), Lakeview (9-0) and Erie McDowell (10-0).
The Cardinals have outscored their opponents, 110-16 this season.
Warren Champion
Warren Champion, a state power in Division III, remains unbeaten on the season at 9-0.
The Golden Flashes are coming off a 17-0 win over Garrettsville Garfield.
Champion has outscored its opponents, 103-14 this spring.
Howland
Howland holds down the No. 4 spot this week.
The Tigers are 8-3 overall but two of their losses were to powerful Canfield by 4-2 and 7-6 finals.
Howland has won three games in a row, including wins over Jefferson, Solon and LaBrae in its last three outings.
Columbiana
The Columbiana Clippers move up to No. 5 in the ratings.
The Clippers are 12-3 on the campaign and posted two impressive wins over the weekend over Lakeview and West Branch.
Mathews
The Mathews Mustangs are No. 6 in this week’s rankings.
The Mustangs are 12-4 overall and have won eight of their last nine games.
West Branch
West Branch rounds out this week’s Super 7 softball poll at No. 7.
The Warriors are 10-3 and have won four of their past five games.
