West Branch comes back to defeat Edgewood in completion of rain-suspended softball game

BELOIT — Down 4-0 after 1-1/2 innings, West Branch High School’s softball team came back to defeat Ashtabula Edgewood 11-6 at the Warriors’ Sis Woods Softball Field.

West Branch, which is the No. 7 seed in the tournament, trailed 4-0 to Edgewood when their game was halted by pouring rain and muddy field conditions on Saturday.

The two teams agreed to play Monday and the game resumed with Edgewood up 4-0 with West Branch batting with no outs and a runner at first base in the bottom of the second inning.

Playing in sunny, dry conditions on Monday, West Branch came back to outscore Edgewood 11-2 over the final six innings to advance in the tournament as a sectional champion.

West Branch overtook Edgewood with a five-run third inning and added three runs in fifth and sixth innings to up their record to 15-6 while advancing in the tournament.

The win sends the Warriors into the Division II district tournament at the Jefferson Little League Complex Tuesday where the Warriors will play top-seeded Aurora in a district semifinal at 2 p.m.
