Austintown Fitch back in state final with 10-0 win over Fairfield
Defending state softball champion Austintown Fitch broke open a close-game with a nine-run fourth inning and posted a 10-0 win over Fairfield Friday in five innings at Firestone Stadium in Akron.
Standout pitcher Syndie Watts lived up to her reputation with the fourth perfect game in OHSAA history. She retired all 15 batters she faced with nine strikeouts.
Abygale Toth opened the scoring with a RBI double before the Falcons made a big push in the fourth inning.
Austintown Fitch scored eight of their nine runs after two outs in the inning.
All nine batters got on base in the inning, which was highlighted by a Watts home run..
