Police officers in Columbus worked with Youngstown police detectives to track down a second suspect in 15-year-old Amya Monserrat’s death.

According to Youngstown police chief of detectives Jason Simon, 20-year-old Saun Markese Peterson has been taken into custody and charged with complicity to murder.

An arrest warrant was first issued for him for the charge around April 25, ten days after Monserrat was killed outside Martha’s Boulevard Tavern on the south side.

Detectives in Columbus learned Peterson was in their area. Peterson was arrested yesterday evening by Columbus Police Department without incident, Simon said.

At this time, YPD has no further information on the circumstances of his arrest, but Peterson will have an extradition hearing within 10 days to be brought back to Mahoning County.

A 16-year-old was arrested April 21 and entered the juvenile equivalent of a not guilty plea in court April 24.

The juvenile faces one felony count of murder and three felony counts of attempted murder and is currently incarcerated.

Simon said the investigation into Monserrat’s murder is ongoing and being led by Detective Sgt. Michael Cox.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact YPD as detectives continue to build the case.
