Students to learn about STEM opportunities at Kent Trumbull conference
Over 200 students from the Mahoning Valley and 30 guest speakers will be gathering at the Kent State Trumbull campus in Warren for a STEM conference Friday.
STEM stands for specific education in science, technology, engineering and math.
It’s become a popular program to encourage students in elementary, middle and high school to pursue STEM in post-graduate studies.
Female students encouraged to study STEM
Kent State University at Trumbull has organized the STEM conference for fifteen years, hoping to encourage more female students through the years to study science.
During the conference, students will hear accounts from STEM professionals, notably women, such as speaker Jennifer Clark, who manages Intel-Ohio’s Production department.
The keynote speaker is KSU’s Dr. Peggy Shadduck, vice president for Regional Campuses and dean of the College of Applied and Technical Studies.
The speakers will discuss finding employment, pursuing degrees and their experiences as women working in STEM.
“This is a great opportunity for local students to explore a variety of STEM careers and begin planning their pathway,“ said Dr. Valerie Cubon-Bell, STEM Trumbull County director and professor of chemistry.
The event begins with breakfast at 7:45 a.m. at Kent State University’s Trumbull campus.
