One woman is thanking her community and The Niles Police Department for going the extra mile to help her find something stolen from her yard.

Surveillance video captured March 25 showed someone pulling their car up to Erin Murray’s front yard in Niles and stealing a decorative wolf statue.

Murray, a four-year military veteran, filed a police report and provided them with her security camera footage.

“We found the footage of the guy taking the statue, and I’m like, Are you kidding me?’” Murray said. “We got so many tips, so many, you know, people saying, hey, we know who that is. It was just amazing how everybody came together.”

How Niles police helped find the statue

The Niles City Police Department posted the video online, hoping to return the statue to Murray and find the person who took it.

“Because of your tips, legwork by our detectives, and an image from our Flock LPR cameras, the stolen concrete wolf statue is back home. Over the weekend, the suspect vehicle was located and impounded,” the police department later posted online.

Canfield man accused of taking statue reportedly returned it to Niles home

The suspect, 55-year-old Robert Scott from Canfield, reportedly brought the statue back to Murray’s yard himself on April 2.

“It was actually returned around midnight-ish, and my husband happened to catch the guy,” Murray said. “Well, I guess the guy was supposed to apologize, and he didn’t. He was like, Oh, I knew somebody who knew somebody who knew somebody. And then he just brought it back. Very weird,” Murray said.

Scott is facing one count of theft.
