A significant portion of the state budget, which the Ohio House of Representatives approved on Wednesday, is on its way to helping Canfield schools.

According to State Rep. Al Cutrona, a native of Canfield, $33 million from the Ohio budget will go toward revitalizing the inside and outside of Canfield schools.

“This is a win for Canfield. It’s a win for the students and my constituents,” he said. “I’m honored to have brought this unprecedented funding for the Canfield school.”

What will the funds be used for in Canfield?

The funds will be used to construct a new middle school and support the Accelerated School Assistance Program, which will “improve the learning environment for students, support their academic success and prepare them for the workforce.”

“Unfortunately, the Canfield Middle School is over 100 years old and is falling apart. It was important to get this funding secured in this budget to build the new school and provide students with a proper learning environment,” Cutrona said.

The budget will still need to be approved by the Senate.
