Penguin City Beer to partner with The Greater Youngstown Italian Fest

Penguin City Beer has announced a partnership with The Greater Youngstown Italian Fest.

Penguin City Beer will be the official beer of the fest.

The festival takes place on August 4-6 in the central square of downtown Youngstown.

“The Greater Youngstown Italian Fest is one we have been wanting to get into and are truly excited to be a part of this time-honored Youngstown tradition.” said Aspasia Lyras-Bernacki, Co-Owner, Penguin City Beer.

Auction opens for Imagination Creation playhouses

In the Imagination Creation Contest being held at Eastwood Mall, children ages of 6-14 dreamt up their playhouse ideas.

The winning designers are Giavanna Hafely, Melody Bartlett, Olivia Mazzola, Antoinette Davis, Brianna Kleismit, J.J. Hether, Dakota Moore, Alana Moore, Zander Kosmo and Alison Smith. The ten winning designers received Eastwood Mall gift cards. Their colorful playhouse drawings will also be on display in the mall.

To bid on the designs, an online auction is being held where participants can place a bid by scanning the QR code by each design in the mall.

The winning bids will be revealed on August 17. Proceeds of the auction will benefit Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley.

Youngstown Board of Education to hold special meeting Friday

The Youngstown Board of Education will hold a special meeting 4:30 p.m. June 23, in the commons area of Choffin Career and Technical Center, 200 E. Wood Street. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the state budget bill.

Youngstown YWCA hosts women’s art show

The YMCA of Mahoning Valley will hold its 41st “Women Artists: A Celebration!” exhibition starting Sunday at 25 W. Rayen Ave.

Alta Behavioral Healthcare opens new Howland location

Alta Behavioral Healthcare is moving its Howland office to a new dedicated space.

Beginning June 26, children and families can visit the new space for outpatient counseling, case management, pharmacological services, Alcohol or Drug Treatment Level One and peer support services, all with no wait times.

The new facility, located at 8790 E. Market Street Suite 100 in Warren, will replace Alta’s current Howland office.

“We are thrilled to welcome our clients and the community to this new space. As mental health and behavioral services continue to rise in demand, this new, more convenient location will allow us the space to grow and meet the needs of the community,” said Joe Shorokey, Chief Executive Officer of Alta Care Group.

Deadline is June 30 for Youngstown Press Club scholarships

College students wishing to apply for a Youngstown Press Club scholarship have until June 30 to submit their applications. The two $2,000 scholarships are being awarded to college juniors or seniors from the Mahoning or Shenango valleys who are studying journalism or a related field.

One of these awards will go to a journalism major and the other to a student of public relations, marketing, broadcasting or another communications-related field.

After completing that form, applicants should download it to their computers and e-mail the form and all attachments to youngstownpressclub@gmail.com.

Winners will be announced by early August.

Yost invites Ohio high school students to join Teen Ambassador Board

Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost is accepting applications from high school juniors and seniors for the Teen Ambassador Board, an experience that offers firsthand knowledge of Ohio law and government.

The purpose of the board is to grow future Ohio leaders by introducing them to the challenges and opportunities of governance. This program will enable students to refine their leadership skills while preparing them for a possible career in public service.

“The Teen Ambassador Board is a logical next step for young men and women who have already demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities within their schools and communities,” Yost said. “This program empowers students and provides tools and insights to make a positive impact on their next chapter in life.”
