John J. McDonough Museum granted $11k award from Ohio Arts Council Board
The Cliffe College of Creative Arts and the John J. McDonough Museum of Art, Youngstown State University’s Center for Contemporary Art, have received a sustainability grant for $11,292 for the upcoming year.
The award came from the historic $21.8 million in Arts Grants approved by Ohio Arts Council Board.
“This flexible and reliable funding supports a wide range of the state’s arts providers as they make high-quality artistic experiences available to residents and visitors, positioning Ohio as a national leader in creativity, artistry, and cultural wealth,” wrote the Ohio Arts Council (OAC) in its description of the grant.
This year there were 452 sustainability grants awarded, totaling $16,294,566.
McDonough Museum enters its 32nd year at YSU
“The willingness [and generousity] of the government underscores the importance of the arts to our communities. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the members of the Ohio General Assembly, Governor Mike DeWine and Lieutenant Governor Jon Husted, along with the OAC, for their continued support,” wrote organizers at the McDonough.
Without continued funding from OAC grants, the museum couldn’t afford programs like the Emerging Artist series, which creates opportunities for new and emerging artists, especially those with underrepresented voices and viewpoints.
The funding has allowed organizers to collaborate with the community to create programs that matter to them for the last 32 years.
“Ohio’s arts and culture sector is poised for a strong future as we continue to work together for a full recovery of in-person arts programming, an expansion of arts education to combat pandemic-related learning loss, and restoration and growth of career opportunities for arts professionals,” said OAC executive director Donna S. Collins.
