Youngstown murder defendant gets life without parole
A Youngstown man received a life without the possibility of parole prison sentence for the home invasion murder of a Warren man.
A Trumbull County jury took about an hour on Friday, Aug. 4 to convict Ronique Requel, 26, of all seven felonies plus gun specifications in the Feb. 5, 2023, shooting death of Adam Spaid in his Milton Street SE, Warren, home.
Victim was reportedly shot 10 times
Requel was sentenced Tuesday by Common Pleas Judge Andrew D. Logan.
Requel was found guilty of two counts aggravated murder, one count aggravated robbery, one count aggravated burglary, one count having weapons while under disability, one count intimidation and one count receiving stolen property with the four gun specifications.
At trial, Assistant Prosecutors Christopher Becker and Gabriel Wildman had called some from some 15 witnesses included many patrol officers and detectives who were at the crime scene of the Milton Street SE address where Spaid, 28, was shot to death.
A Cuyahoga County doctor testified Spaid was shot 10 times, with massive injuries to internal organs.
At the sentencing hearing, the judge heard from Spaid’s live-in girlfriend, Gabby McCullough, who had testified during trial she had encountered Requel on the stairway after the shooting.
“February 5, 2023 is the day my entire life was changed,” McCullough read from a prepared statement which described her life after the slaying . “Fear has taken over me, and I was too afraid to leave my bed, let alone my house.”
She said she and Spaid had planned to marry and begin a family.
Also delivering a victim impact statement was Spaid’s mother.
